Venus Retrograde 2026: Dates, 3 October to 14 November
Six weeks in which love, money and taste come back to the table. What returns, and what to do with it.
My grandmother kept one drawer in her dresser for things you neither throw away nor use: a ring without its stone, letters tied with ribbon, a length of silk. Once a year she opened the drawer, looked at everything and decided again. Some things came back into her life. Some finally went in the bin.
Venus retrograde is that drawer. Roughly every eighteen months, for about forty days, Venus appears to move backwards across the sky, and whatever has to do with love, money and beauty gets looked at once more.
In 2026 the phase begins on 3 October in Scorpio and ends on 14 November in Libra. Here is what that means, what the old tradition postpones, and what works particularly well right now.
What Venus retrograde means
Venus does not really go backwards. She is closer to the Sun than we are and overtakes Earth on the inside track. During the weeks of overtaking, it looks from here as though she were moving back. In the middle of that time she vanishes from the evening sky and reappears some days later as the morning star. The ancients saw a descent and a return in that.
In astrology Venus stands for what you love and for what is worth something to you: relationships, money, taste, pleasure, your own face in the mirror. Retrograde, she asks one question in many costumes: is this still worth as much to you as it was?
That is why these are the weeks of return. Old loves get in touch. A lost friendship resurfaces. A dress you adored years ago is suddenly at the front of the wardrobe again. Money matters that seemed settled want renegotiating. None of this is an order. It is a chance to look.
No planet spends as little time retrograde as Venus. That makes her phases stand out more than those of Mercury, who turns round three times a year.
Venus retrograde 2026 dates: shadows and stations
Venus turns retrograde on 3 October at 09:09 Central European Time. On 14 November at 01:21 she stands still again and then moves direct.
As with Mercury, there is a shadow before and after. Venus first enters the stretch of zodiac she will later walk again in reverse on 31 August, at that point still in Libra. Only on 15 December 2026 does she reach the place of her first station again, by then in Scorpio, and the theme is done.
Whatever began in the pre-shadow, a meeting, a purchase, a small discord, is examined during the retrograde weeks. In the post-shadow you know where you stand. The two station days themselves are the loudest. Around those dates it pays not to say anything final.

First Scorpio, then Libra
This phase has two chapters, and they taste different.
Venus in Scorpio. She starts in Scorpio, the sign of depth, attachment, jealousy and shared money. By old teaching Venus is not comfortable here: she wants ease, Scorpio wants all or nothing. Retrograde, this becomes a matter of trust. Who owes whom? What was kept quiet? What are you clinging to although it does you no good? The first weeks are the denser ones.
Back into Libra. In the last days of October Venus slips backwards into Libra, her own sign. Here she is at home, and the tone lightens. The question changes from “can I trust you?” to “is this fair between us?”. Who gives more, who takes more, what was never said in order to keep the peace? Venus also turns direct in Libra. So the answer falls in the place where balance is possible.
Taken together: first look honestly at the heavy part, then find a fair shape for it. That is not a bad order.
What tradition says to postpone
Astrology forbids nothing. But for centuries it has named three things that are better not begun under a retrograde Venus, if you have the choice.
- Weddings and engagements. The thinking: whatever is decided under a Venus looking backwards will be examined again later. If your date has long been set, you do not need to cancel it. Many good marriages began in weeks like these. Tradition only advises giving the promise deliberately and not out of hurry.
- Big changes to your appearance. A drastic haircut, a new hair colour, a cosmetic procedure. Taste wavers in this period, and what looks bold today may not please you in December. Care for what is there, rebuild later.
- Luxury purchases. Jewellery, expensive clothes, art, a car chosen for its colour. Venus is also the price of things, and when she is retrograde it is easy to misjudge. If you can, sleep on it for a few nights and keep the receipt.
These are traditions, not rules, and certainly not predictions. When life sets a date, the date stands. I am not giving you financial advice either. I am only telling you where I myself look twice.
What goes well now
Retrograde weeks are made for anything that repairs, returns or speaks plainly.
- Repairing. Take the ring to the jeweller, have the coat altered, frame the picture at last. Beautiful things you already own get their turn.
- Returning and settling. Borrowed things, small debts, a favour still owed. With Venus in Scorpio every open account weighs double, and clearing it is a real relief.
- Honest talks. The sentence you have been carrying around since spring. In Libra you find a tone for it that does not wound.
- Putting old loves in their place. If someone from the past writes, you may read the message and leave it. Sometimes a person comes back so that a story gets a proper ending, not a new beginning.
- Reviewing your own worth. What do you charge for your work? What do you put up with? Venus retrograde is a good time to write down what you will no longer give away below its price.
What comes back to you does not always want to stay. Sometimes it only wants a proper goodbye.

Aries
For Aries it is first about shared money and closeness, then about the partnership itself. An agreement on who carries what wants rewording. Towards the end of October a former partner may be standing in front of you again.
Taurus
Venus rules Taurus, so you feel this phase clearly. First the person opposite you is in focus, then your daily life. Ask whether your days are arranged in a way that does you good, and change one small habit.
Gemini
For Gemini it starts with work and daily routines, then moves to joy and romance. A hobby you gave up is calling. An old crush perhaps too.
Cancer
Cancer looks first at love and pleasure, then at home. Something in the family that has long been under the carpet wants talking about. Rearranging the flat is fine, refurnishing is better left for December.
Leo
For Leo it begins at home and then moves into conversation: siblings, neighbours, messages. A sentence that was never said wants saying. Write it down first, then say it.
Virgo
Virgo first meets second thoughts in conversations and short trips, then the question of her own money. Work out what you actually receive for your work. A subscription or an old expense may go.
Libra
Venus is your ruler and returns to your sign. For Libra this is the most personal phase of the year. First it is about money, then about you: how you appear, what you want without asking everyone first.
Scorpio
Venus turns retrograde in your sign. Scorpio first examines itself, its image, its wishes. After that the theme withdraws inwards. Allow yourself quiet. What you settle for yourself now, you need explain to no one.
Sagittarius
For Sagittarius it begins out of sight, with old feelings nobody knows about, and then moves to friends. Someone from an earlier circle gets in touch. Check which friendships still run both ways.
Capricorn
Capricorn looks first at friendships and networks, then at career. A former colleague or an old offer turns up. This is a good time to prepare the talk about pay and recognition, and a better time to hold it after the station.
Aquarius
For Aquarius it is first about career and reputation, then about travel, study, convictions. A place or a course you abandoned pulls you back. Read the papers from that time once more.
Pisces
For Pisces it starts with wanderlust and questions of belief and ends with shared money and closeness. Clarify what you share with someone and on what terms. An open debt, in either direction, can be settled now.
Venus and Mercury retrograde at the same time
This autumn Venus does not stay alone. From 24 October to 13 November Mercury runs backwards too, also in Scorpio. For three weeks the word and the worth look back together.
